1、表示并列的两个事物同时存在例如：
She not only sings well but also dances beautifully.
（她不仅唱得好，而且舞跳得漂亮。）
2、表示not only所在的分句强调的是but also后面的分句例如：
Not only did he study hard, but he also had a part-time job.
（他不仅学习刻苦，而且还有一份兼职工作。）
3、not only和but also后面的成分可以是单个的单词、短语、从句等例如：
He not only speaks English fluently but also can write it well.
（他不仅英语说得流利，而且写得也很好。）
4、在句子中，not only和but also可以颠倒顺序，但意思不变例如：
But also she is very beautiful, not only is she intelligent.
（她不仅聪明，而且非常漂亮。）
5、当not only后接的是一个倒装句时，but also后面的句子也要用倒装例如：
Not only did he not attend the meeting, but also he didn't give any notice.
（他不仅没有参加会议，而且也没有通知任何人。）
